How your link looks
These previews are close approximations. Each platform changes its design from time to time, so confirm important links with the platform's own debugger.
What Open Graph tags do
When someone shares your link on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp or X, those apps look in the head of your page for Open Graph tags. The tags say which title, description and image to show in the link card. Without them the app has to guess, and often picks a poor image or a cut-off sentence. A good card makes a shared link look trustworthy and gets more clicks.
The tags you need
- og:title: the headline of the card. Keep it clear and under about 60 characters.
- og:description: one or two sentences about the page.
- og:image: the picture. Use a full https:// address.
- og:url: the clean, canonical address of the page.
- twitter:card: tells X how large to make the image.
summary_large_imageis the usual choice.
Choosing a good share image
- Use about 1200 × 630 pixels, a ratio of roughly 1.91 to 1.
- Keep text and logos away from the edges, because some apps crop the image.
- Use a real, readable picture with a short headline instead of a tiny logo on white.
- Keep the file reasonably small so it loads quickly in chat apps.
If the old preview keeps showing
Social platforms store link previews. After you change your tags, ask the platform to fetch the page again with the Facebook Sharing Debugger or the LinkedIn Post Inspector. X and WhatsApp refresh their cached previews on their own schedule, so a change can take a while to appear.

Frequently asked questions
What is Open Graph?
Open Graph is a set of meta tags in your page's head that tell social networks and chat apps which title, description and image to show when your link is shared.
What size should the share image be?
A common choice is 1200 by 630 pixels, which has a ratio of about 1.91 to 1. Keep important content away from the edges because some apps crop the image.
Why does a shared link still show the old image?
Platforms cache link previews. After you change your tags, refresh the cache with the Facebook Sharing Debugger or the LinkedIn Post Inspector.
Does this tool fetch my page?
No. You type your details or paste your head code, so nothing is sent to our server. Your browser loads the image directly from the address you enter.
Are the previews exact?
They are close approximations. Each platform changes its design from time to time, so treat the previews as a guide and confirm with the platform's own debugger.
How is this different from the Meta Tag Generator?
This tool is built for checking how a link will look. The Meta Tag Generator is built for writing your title and description with a Google result preview.
